The Duke Center for Clinical Health Policy Research (CCHPR) was created in July 1997 to encourage the formation, implementation, and evaluation of sound clinical health care policies.

CCHPR emerged from the restructuring of the Center for Health Policy Research and Education (CHPRE). CCHPR is distinguished from its predecessor in two important ways: first, as its name implies, it focuses on clinical policy research and, second, befitting its clinical focus, it is located within the Duke University Medical Center.

CCHPR has one important feature in common with its predecessor: it has a highly qualified and experienced core staff that covers a wide range of clinical and methodological expertise. CCHPR is directed by David B. Matchar, MD.
